How to Get 90 in PTE With 20% of Effort for 80% of the Results
Would you like to know the secret to HOW TO GET 90 in PTE?
You’re probably studying for your English test by watching YouTube videos.
GREAT! (that’s a good 1st step)
But you might still be wondering:
“Am I practicing the right things?”
“What questions do I need to focus on the most?”
“How do I know that I’m ready for the real exam?”
“Can I really score 50, 65 or 79 by myself?”
Well, here it is: people who PASS their exam practice differently.
They know how to get 90 in PTE with 20% of EFFORT for 80% of the RESULTS.
Saaaay whaaaaaaaaaaat? 😲😲😲
It’s because they understand the marking in PTE – and which 4-5 tasks give you 80% of the marks. (you will be surprised by what’s ACTUALLY important – we have another article on this topic here)

“They know what are the 20% of the questions → that give 80% of the marks”
If you’re practicing ‘multiple choice & select missing word’ – that’s peanuts…NOT IMPORTANT.
And if you insist on wasting your time there, you can stop reading this post.
BUT if you’re still reading…
HERE’S HOW THEY DID IT:
Speaking section? It’s the MOST IMPORTANT section out of all.
It gives you the most marks.
…and it also gives points in your LISTENING & READING!!!
Practice THIS to get 90 in PTE Speaking:
- Read aloud!
Because it affects speaking AND reading.
Focus on FLUENCY (speaking continuously, in flow) for your Speaking Score.
And on CLARITY (of how you read) for your Reading Score. - Repeat sentence!
Because it affects speaking AND listening (A LOT!) - Describe Image & Retell Lecture?
Easy – memorize a format for each and focus on your fluency (talking non-stop)
BUT with the PTE changes in November of 2024 – you CANNOT repeat the exact same format again and again. You MUST modify it in each question – as there is now human assessment in those 2 tasks!!!
“Speaking is where EVERY ONE (of our students) gets 90”
How to get 90 in PTE Reading?
Fun fact – 60% to 70% of ALL your marks in reading come from ‘Fill in the Blanks’ (both types).
Sooo…you should probably focus on them the most.
DO NOT practice multiple choice questions – waste of time.
How about reorder paragraphs? Well, there are some basic strategies (that we also teach in class). They will GUARANTEE you’re getting most of the marks in that task.
You should be able to consistently find 2 out of 4 pairs MINIMUM (if you know the basic techniques).
How to get 90 in PTE Listening?
There are 3 key tasks here.
- Summarize Spoken Text (SST)
Again – this is pretty easy if you follow our NOTE-TAKING STRATEGY
- Listening Fill in the Blanks (L FIBs)
If you went to Uni or work in an English environment – you can probably do well here; if not, watch this video for some extra tricks.
- Write from Dictation (WFD)
Dictation is KING! This is THE MOST IMPORTANT TASK in PTE!!!
If you get 3/3 or 4/4 dictation correct – you get a very high chance of getting 79+ in PTE
Let’s sum this up:
Getting 90 in the PTE is possible even without studying lots of practice materials. Knowing the most relevant parts of the exam that will give you the most marks is essential. These are the 20% that will provide you with 80% of the results:
- All of the PTE Speaking
- PTE Fill-in-the-Blanks in the Reading section
- PTE Write from Dictation in the Listening section
Once you master these parts, you’ll be able to ace the PTE and get high results even with minimal effort.

Oh…and how to get 90 in PTE Writing???
(and you thought we forgot 😉)
Don’t worry about it too much….
More than 50% of your marks in writing will come from listening (which you’re already practicing).
Just prepare an essay template and memorize it. Just BE CAREFUL!
If you found a random format on youtube/google – it’s probably been used by thousands of people and may get you banned. We have a YouTube tutorial HERE on how you can create your own unique, 90/90 PTE Template.
Good luck!
