Pte study plan while working full-time

PTE While Working Full Time: A Weekly Study Plan That Fits (2026)

Quick answer: To prepare for PTE while working full time, you don’t need 4 free hours a day. Most working students pass with about 1.5 to 2 hours a day, split into short blocks: Write from Dictation 30 minutes, Reading Fill in the Blanks 45 minutes, and Speaking 30 minutes. Add a longer session on the weekend for mock tests and feedback. Consistency beats cramming.

Why it feels impossible

You finish work tired, there’s family, and the exam date keeps moving. You study alone on YouTube, your scores go up and down, and every retake costs another exam fee. Students describe it as “struggling for more than a year” or “my fourth attempt”. It is a cycle, and it usually comes from studying without a plan or feedback, not from a lack of ability.

The weekly plan for PTE while working full time

Day Before or after work (about 1.5 to 2 h) Focus
Mon to Fri WFD 30 min · Reading FIBs 45 min · Speaking 30 min Daily habits that move the most marks
One weekday Swap Reading for Writing (SWT or Essay) Writing is the skill most likely to miss W85 for Superior
Saturday Live class or a full mock test Feedback and exam timing
Sunday Review mistakes from the week, light practice Fix one habit at a time

Split it however your day works: WFD on the train, Speaking in the car (record yourself and listen back), Reading at lunch. This is the rhythm I give my classes: “Half an hour morning, half an hour lunch, half an hour after work, it’s up to you guys.”

5 rules for busy people

  1. Book the exam last, not first. Book when your mocks clear the target in every skill.
  2. Never skip Speaking. Repeat Sentence and Read Aloud practice takes 15 minutes and protects two skills.
  3. One mock every week or two (from the middle of your prep), always reviewed.
  4. Get feedback, don’t just practise. Ten reviewed answers beat a hundred unchecked ones.
  5. Protect your sleep the week before. Tired speakers lose fluency.

Before you book, do at least one official Pearson scored practice test or a full mock on our platform, so you know your real starting point. If your scores move around between tests, read why your PTE score goes up and down.

FAQ

How many hours a day do I need to study for PTE while working?

For most students, about 1.5 to 2 hours a day in short blocks, plus one longer weekend session. More if your target is Superior.

How long does PTE preparation take while working full-time?

It depends on your starting level and target. Many students move from the 60s to 80 plus within about two months of consistent practice with feedback.

Can I prepare for PTE only on weekends?

Weekends alone are usually not enough for the daily-practice tasks (WFD, Reading FIBs, Speaking). Aim for short daily blocks plus a weekend class or mock.
