IELTS 7 Each and 8 Each in PTE: Exact Scores for Proficient and Superior (2026)

Quick answer: what are 7 each and 8 each in PTE?
IELTS “7 each” is Proficient English (10 points) and IELTS “8 each” is Superior English (20 points). In PTE Academic, for tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, that means:
- 7 each (Proficient): Listening 58, Reading 59, Writing 69, Speaking 76
- 8 each (Superior): Listening 69, Reading 70, Writing 85, Speaking 88
You must reach every skill. The old “65 each” and “79 each” PTE scores apply only to tests taken on or before 6 August 2025.

Why 8 each in PTE is no longer 79
Before 7 August 2025, Superior English meant 79 in every PTE skill. Home Affairs now sets a different minimum for each skill. Writing (85) and Speaking (88) are higher than the old 79. What if my test was before 7 August 2025
Results from tests taken on or before 6 August 2025 used the flat scores (Competent 50, Proficient 65, Superior 79 in each skill). They may still be accepted for a transition period, depending on your visa and how old the result can be. Confirm this with Home Affairs or a registered migration agent before you rely on an old result.
